Homemade Nocino: the liqueur that warms the soul

Artisanal Nocino: a dive into the Italian liqueur tradition

Ingredients for 1.5 l

  • 30 fresh walnuts, with husks
  • 1.5 l of 36° alcohol
  • 500 g of sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Peel of 1/2 lemon
  • Cloves

Method

  1. Clean the walnuts and place them in a mortar with alcohol, cinnamon, lemon peel and cloves. Macerate for 30 days, exposed to the sun and shaking occasionally.
  2. Filter the liquid obtained and prepare a syrup with water and sugar, adding the rest of the cinnamon and cloves.
  3. Add the cold syrup to the walnut liquid, mix well and bottle. Let the nocino rest for another 30 days.
