Stracotto with polenta: a comfort food of Italian cuisine

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 1.5 kg of beef
  • 50 g of butter
  • 1 rib of celery
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 glasses of red wine
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • Meat broth to taste
  • salt
  • Pepper
  • For the polenta:
  • 250 g of corn flour for polenta
  • Water to taste
  • salt

Method

  1. Cut the meat into cubes and fry it with butter, chopped celery, onion and carrot. Pour in the wine and add the tomato paste.
  2. Add broth to cover the meat and cook over a low heat for at least 3 hours, until the meat becomes tender.
  3. For the polenta, bring the salted water to the boil and pour in the flour, stirring continuously until you reach the desired consistency.
  4. Serve the stew piping hot on a bed of soft polenta.
